Wales is set for a very wet final bank holiday of the summer, with heavy showers and possible thunderstorms forecast across the weekend. Saturday is expected to bring the heaviest rain, with up to 16mm falling within the hour in some places.
Yellow thunderstorm warning issued
Ahead of the bank holiday weekend, the Met Office issued a yellow thunderstorm warning covering much of the country on Friday, with flooding possible in some areas. Forecasters warned that "frequent downpours" are possible.
Temperatures look set to be mild, with highs of around 20C expected. There will be plenty of rain on Saturday, with more heavy downpours forecast by the Met Office. Monday looks set to be the finest day of the bank holiday, with dry spells forecast for much of the afternoon.
Saturday, August 29
The bank holiday weekend looks set to get off to a very wet start, with most of the country waking up to rain on Saturday. Some of the rain spells will be heavy, with up to 16mm forecast to fall within the hour. The band of rain will gradually move northwards as the day goes on.
There will be some dry spells in the evening, but there is a high chance these patches could be interrupted by showers, according to the Met Office forecast. At 9pm, another band of rain will move across the country.
Sunday, August 30
There will be scattered and heavy showers overnight into Sunday morning. Sunday will be drier than Saturday, but there is still plenty of rain in the forecast.
The Met Office said: "A cloudy and wet start with rain, clearing eastwards during the day. Turning brighter from the west during the afternoon with sunny spells and showers following. Maximum temperature 20C."
There will be dry patches for much of Sunday morning, interspersed with heavy showers. According to weather maps, showers will get more heavy and frequent as the day goes on.
Monday, August 31
Monday looks set to be the driest day of the bank holiday weekend. The morning will start with some heavy rain in the west, with showers until early afternoon.
By 4pm, the worst of the showers will have cleared, and the evening looks set to be largely dry.
The Met Office says: "Unsettled throughout with showers, these locally heavy and with thundery. Staying warm to start with but turning fresher as winds shift to a westerly and strengthen from Monday."
