The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Merseyside, with thunderstorms expected to bring disruption for 15 hours on Thursday. The alert comes into force at 7am on Thursday, August 27, and lasts until 10pm.
The forecaster has also warned of flash flooding over the coming days, with driving conditions potentially affected by spray and sudden flooding that could lead to road closures.

The weather warning said: "Thunderstorms and heavy rain may lead to some disruption." Further information added: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds."
The warning covers Merseyside as well as other regions in the North West, including Cheshire and Greater Manchester. It also extends to parts of the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East England, South West England, Wales, West Midlands, and Yorkshire and Humber.
Advice for residents
Advice from the Met Office said: "Consider if your location is at risk of flash flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit."
"Prepare to protect your property and people from injury. Before gusty winds arrive, check to ensure moveable objects or temporary structures are well secured. Items include: bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, gazebos, sheds, and fences."
"Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary."
