Met Office double storm warnings for 134 areas as flooding feared

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings covering most of the UK, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected to disrupt transport, infrastructure and outdoor activities.

One warning covers southern Scotland and Northern Ireland, while the other covers all of England except the south-east. Both yellow warnings run from 11am to 9pm today.

England warning details

The yellow alert for England warns of 30-40 mm of rain and wind gusts of 35-45 mph, with “probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes.”

Scotland and Northern Ireland warning

For Scotland and Northern Ireland, the warning forecasts widespread, heavy and thundery showers with 25-35 mm possible, while “lightning and hail will be additional hazards,” the forecaster warned.
