Cloud cover forecast for the North East
According to the Met Office's cloud cover percentage map, the North East is forecast to be blanketed by clouds for most of the day, while southern areas of the UK enjoy clearer skies. However, as the eclipse approaches its maximum, clouds are expected to part over Newcastle and Alnwick.
Despite the clearing, the eclipse will occur near sunset, providing a narrow window for viewing. The best views will be towards the south-western horizon, so higher elevations are more likely to offer a good glimpse.
Weather outlook for the week
The Met Office forecasts largely dry conditions next week with plenty of sunshine and light winds, turning hotter and more humid from mid-week. Temperatures on the day of the eclipse are expected to reach 28°C.
Astronomers and enthusiasts are advised to prepare with proper eclipse glasses or pinhole projectors, and to seek locations with an unobstructed south-western view to maximize their chances of seeing the event.
