The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly nervous about doing the school run while security for her family remains unsettled, a friend claims. Harry and Meghan, along with their children Archie and Lilibet, have returned to the UK after living in California for six years since quitting their royal roles in 2020.
Return to the UK
It is believed they will be residing in the Cotswolds, with the children enrolled in UK schools to start the new year in September. They landed in the UK on Wednesday, ahead of starting their new life back in England. The surprising U-turn comes following their private meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla in July.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly made the move because they wanted their children to be educated in the UK. Some commentators have also suggested that Charles' ongoing health issues could be another possible influence.
Security concerns
The Duke of Sussex has lobbied several times to have his security detail assessed by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), but is said to still be waiting for the outcome he desires. Harry seems to have been given fresh hope of being granted taxpayer-funded security after a new review of the terror threat against his family has been ordered.
Sources revealed to the Mirror that the Home Office is “actively assessing” Harry’s case again after the Duke of Sussex wrote personally to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood asking for a renewed assessment of his security situation. The pair have barely left the house since arriving last week and Meghan is said to be worried about driving Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, to and from their prep school.
School run risk
Having a regular drop-off and pick-up time increases the security risk, the friend says. According to The Sun the friend said: “The school run is a tricky issue and I understand they are nervous about it.” A Government spokesman said of the protection system: “It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”
