Celtic have confirmed that Martin O'Neill is recovering in hospital following a health scare. The experienced Hoops manager has undergone "a small procedure" but is anticipated to be discharged later this week.
Club statement
A club statement read: "In response to speculation, we can confirm that Martin O'Neill has undergone a small procedure in hospital.
"We would envisage Martin being released from hospital in the next day or two and on behalf of Martin, we would like to thank supporters for their kind wishes. We would ask that the privacy of Martin and his family is respected."
Match uncertainty
Celtic are yet to confirm whether the 74-year-old will be in the dugout for Sunday's Scottish Premiership clash at Kilmarnock, reports the Daily Record.
O'Neill stepped up to answer the emergency call twice last season, initially following Brendan Rodgers' dismissal, taking control for several weeks until Wilfried Nancy's appointment was rubber-stamped.
And when the Frenchman turned out to be a catastrophe, the Hoops hierarchy turned back to O'Neill, who once again took charge until the campaign's conclusion.
Double success
And he managed to secure a league and cup double, hauling in Hearts at the summit before a final day triumph sealed a fifth consecutive Premiership title.
He then beat former player Neil Lennon in the Scottish Cup Final the following week, seeing off Dunfermline at Hampden.
Now O'Neill has returned on a one-year contract.
