London is forecast for days of rainfall later this month, following one of the hottest and driest summers on record.
As the capital cools off from its fifth heatwave of 2026, the season has been characterised by drought, parched green spaces and wildfires.
Today (Saturday, August 15) saw temperatures drop markedly to a maximum of around 27C. Gentle sunshine is set to linger throughout the next week while peaks gradually reduce down to around 22C on Friday, August 21, BBC Weather reports.
Rainfall expected from Sunday
Rainfall is finally predicted to hit the capital on Sunday, August 23, with light showers persisting throughout the day. Forecasters expect the showers to carry on over the ensuing three days - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - reaching its highest precipitation on the last day.
Prince of Wales and PM respond to wildfires
Earlier today, the Prince of Wales thanked emergency services battling wildfires across Britain. He said: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected, particularly those who have lost their homes, and with those working tirelessly to protect communities, homes and the countryside."
Elsewhere, Prime Minister Andy Burnham has pledged to increase funding for fire and rescue services. As he listed the measures the government was taking to deal with wildfires, the Prime Minister said: "The chancellor and the communities secretary at my request are convening emergency, financial support, a package of support, for fire and rescue services that have been significantly affected."
Mr Burnham later added it is "clear the climate is changing" and the country has to "react accordingly". He said: "So I will convene at the end of the summer, a summit with fire and rescue services to make sure they are properly resourced going forwards."
