A yellow weather warning is in place across Liverpool and Merseyside today, with Storm Austen expected to bring strong winds and rain to the region. The Met Office alert is in force from 10am until 9pm on Friday, October 23.
The warning states: "A spell of strong winds, touching gales at times, associated with Storm Austen may bring some localised impacts."
Coastal impacts and travel disruption
Coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities could be affected by spray and/or large waves. There may also be delays on roads and short-term losses of power, while public transport could see disruption, with journeys potentially taking longer.
Weather warnings were initially issued for southeastern areas and Wales, but the Met Office later extended the alert to Merseyside. Other affected areas include Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Warrington.

In Liverpool, the day is expected to start cloudy before rain and strong winds arrive at 11am. Wind speeds will begin at 35mph and increase throughout the day, reaching a high of 50mph at 5pm. Speeds will only drop below 40mph at 11pm.
Rain is forecast to stop by 9pm. Temperatures will hover between 9C and 11C, although it will feel a few degrees colder due to the wind and rain.
