Liverpool Airport M62 roadworks amber alert for passengers

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has issued an amber alert to passengers due to major roadworks on the M62 that could cause significant travel delays.

The eastbound exit slip at Junction 6 is closed and will remain shut until spring 2027 as part of Knowsley Council's investment to improve traffic flow at the junction. A diversion is in place via Junction 7, but drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys.

Council statement on disruption

Council bosses said: "All possible steps are being taken to minimise disruption but there will be some unavoidable delays to journeys."

The scheme will increase the number of approach lanes and widen the roundabout itself. The project aims to deliver additional capacity and reduce travel times for the Liverpool City Region's road network.

Record passenger numbers

The airport handled 650,000 passengers in August this year, marking its busiest month in history.
