Three Cliffs Bay Beach, on the south coast of the Gower Peninsula in Swansea, has been officially named the UK's best dog-friendly beach. The Welsh beach topped the list from Vets Now, thanks to its safety for dogs, water quality, nearby vet clinic, and its stunning coastal scenery.
Why Three Cliffs Bay stands out
The vet care experts noted: "Utterly stunning, this is one of the most photographed beaches in Britain – and understandably so. There are sand dunes to the rear, with the bay's three iconic cliffs towering over the beach below. Unusually for the best beaches in this area, dogs are allowed all year with no restrictions."
The golden stretch of beach is backed by rolling sand dunes, salt marshes, and three limestone cliffs, creating dramatic coastal scenes. In autumn, it welcomes hues of orange during earlier sunsets. The meandering Pennard Pill stream runs through the green valleys and along the beach before reaching the blue sea, making it ideal for dogs to splash across while kept under the watchful eye of their owners.
Walking trails and practical tips
Thanks to its dramatic views, Three Cliffs Bay has often been cited as "one of the most photographed areas in Gower", with panoramic views from the cliffs and along the coastal paths. There are ample walking trails to take advantage of, including along part of the Wales Coast Path or towards Pennard Castle, a 12th-century Norman castle with sand-eroded ruins that overlooks Three Cliffs Bay.
Those planning to visit should be aware that there are no facilities directly on the beach, but parking is available about 400 metres away, and there are toilets in the nearby Holiday Park. Visit Wales also warned visitors about the weather conditions: "Nature can be wild too, watch out for strong tides and currents at all times."

One visitor exclaimed on TripAdvisor: "Beautiful beach and scenic walk. The area is stunning, a great place to walk the dog and see the castle. You can also play golf here." A second shared: "Stunning beach, scenic, amazing views, it's a bit of a walk through a natural heritage site- beautiful. Clear water, no litter. Amazing coastal walks and views." While a third noted: "Brought my friend here from England, sorry. But he had to see the best view in Wales! Simply stunning."
After time spent strolling along the shore or rambling around the nearby coastal paths, there's the Coffee on the Corner, just a 20-minute walk away, or Three Cliffs Coffee Shop, a little further along the coast. Meanwhile, just a 15-minute drive away is the village of Murton in Swansea, with cosy pubs like The Valley Pub and The Plough and Harrow, serving up cask ales and classic pub grub.
