The Marvellous Market in Kirkby town centre, scheduled for Saturday July 25, has been cancelled due to forecast high winds. The event was due to run from 10.30am to 3pm as part of a regular programme of Marvellous Markets events.
Regular market schedule
The Kirkby Town Centre market usually operates on the last Saturday of every month from April to October. Shoppers can find goods from local independents and makers, including handcrafted jewellery, accessories, fashion, food, gifts and beauty items. The pop-up market normally appears on St Chads Parade near Greggs, B&M, Costa Coffee and Iceland.
Other Marvellous Markets
The Marvellous Markets programme also includes the Prescot Eccleston Street Market on the third Saturday of March, May, July and September from 10.30am to 3pm, and the Huyton Village Centre market on the first Saturday of the month from March to October at the same hours. Following the cancellation, the next Marvellous Market event will be in Huyton town centre on August 1 2026.
Council comments
Knowsley Council reintroduced the Marvellous Markets programme for 2026 following a positive response last year. Councillor Tony Brennan, Knowsley Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: "Events like these are a great way to attract visitors into our town centres, boost footfall, and showcase the brilliant shops, cafés and venues that make Huyton, Kirkby and Prescot special." He added: "Following such a positive response last year, I am delighted to see the Marvellous Markets programme return for 2026. We are committed to making our town centres thriving hubs for everyone, and this continued programme of markets is a key part of welcoming people to discover everything Knowsley has to offer."
Additional details
Marvellous Markets also held Kirkby’s first-ever Christmas market last year. Those wishing to trade can apply online. Kirkby also has an established traditional market open from 9am to 4:30pm Monday through Saturday, featuring over 130 stalls and operating for over fifty years.
