Kelso in the Scottish Borders is expected to reach a high of 27C on Wednesday, August 12, as a warm spell returns to Scotland, according to weather maps. The Met Office forecasts a rise in temperatures across the country, with England and parts of Wales also experiencing heatwave conditions.
Forecast Details
After recent cooler weather and thunderstorm warnings, temperatures are set to climb from Tuesday, August 11, with most of Scotland exceeding 20C by midweek. Kelso is predicted to see the highest temperatures, while Jedburgh is expected to hit 26C, and Edinburgh and Aberlour are forecast to reach 25C ahead of the partial solar eclipse.
The Met Office outlook for Monday, August 10, through Wednesday states: "The next few days see high pressure in charge across all areas. Sunny spells for all with temperatures climbing day on day."
Weekend Rain Before Warmth
However, before the warmer weather arrives, many parts of Scotland will experience downpours this weekend. Meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "So we start Saturday with a fair amount of rain across northern and western parts, eastern and southern areas drier. But that frontal system that's bringing the unsettled weather, that's going to make its way south and eastwards. So those drier areas through the morning will turn a bit wetter by the afternoon."
Northern and western parts are expected to see the heaviest rainfall, with the Isle of Skye potentially receiving around 100mm from Friday into Saturday. Parts of the north, west, and Highlands could see 50-80mm.
Sunday Outlook
For Sunday, August 9, Burkill predicts: "So central and southern parts have a fairly wet, soggy day on Sunday. The rain quite persistent... heavy at times, but not as heavy as it has been for some northern and western parts." The north is expected to be drier, though blustery winds could bring fresher air and lower temperatures.
