The Met Office is forecasting heavy rain across most of the UK for Saturday (July 25) and Sunday (July 26), with Scotland set for a particularly damp weekend.
Bands of rain originating from Scotland's north west coast will move south-easterly from the early hours of Saturday. Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen all face a wet start to the weekend, with western Scotland experiencing rain for most of Saturday.
Sunday's Outlook
Sunday looks to be drier for most, with only scattered showers expected across the country. The Met Office forecast on Thursday (July 23) stated: "Plenty of very warm sunshine on Friday, though some rain in the far northwest. Turning cooler over the weekend with some rain moving southeast across the UK. Breezy at times."
Rain will start moving south east from Northern Ireland and Scotland at 7am on Saturday. By 10am, the most northerly parts of England will see rain, and by early afternoon, the north west and north Wales will become damp, followed by Yorkshire later in the afternoon.
Timing of the Worst Rain
England and Wales will largely have a dry Saturday night, but Northern Ireland and Scotland will see precipitation from a new band of rain that moves quickly in the early hours of Sunday. At 7am on Sunday, swathes of Wales, north west England, Yorkshire, and the Midlands will wake up to rain, which will hit the south west by 10am.
The rain will be at its worst around 1pm on Sunday, when most of the country is covered with clouds. Temperatures will remain relatively cool for the season, with highs of 18C on Saturday and 19C on Sunday.
