A water outage at Gatwick Airport caused major disruption in both terminals on July 26, leaving toilets unable to be flushed and hand-washing facilities out of order. Bottled water has been distributed to passengers and staff, and flights remain unaffected.
Water Issue Under Investigation
In a social media statement, Gatwick Airport said: “A water issue in the Horley Area is causing disruption at the airport this morning. The problem is affecting water supply in both terminals and is currently under investigation.” The airport added that other contingency measures are being put in place and apologised for any inconvenience.
SES Water Response
SES Water, which supplies the airport, issued an update at 6am stating: “We have an issue at our Bough Beech Water Treatment Works with some customers experiencing either low water pressure or loss of supply. We apologise to everyone affected. We’re working hard to return water supplies to normal.” A further update at 10am confirmed that bottled water was being delivered to vulnerable customers on the Priority Services Register, and teams were continuing to work to restore normal supplies.
