A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain is in force for Merseyside until 10pm today. The Met Office issued the alert earlier this week, covering several regions across the UK.

The Met Office said: "Thunderstorms and heavy rain may lead to some disruption." Regions included in the alert are the North West, South West, London and South East, East of England, East Midlands, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber.

When will the thunderstorms hit?

Further information said: "A broad band of thunderstorms and heavy rain will move north across England and Wales on Thursday, perhaps becoming slow moving in the afternoon and evening."

Weather maps show large blue patches of rain moving northwards at 10.30am. The wet weather remains over Merseyside throughout the day, with signs of drier conditions around 4.30pm. But it's likely heavy rain will return overnight.
