Two vehicles collided on a single lane stretch of the A1 in Northumberland this afternoon, prompting a response from emergency services. The incident occurred near the turn off to the village of Fenwick at around 1pm on 10 August.
Emergency response and injuries
Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service attended the scene. Police confirmed that no-one has been reported as seriously injured, and officers helped to recover the vehicles after the collision.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a road traffic incident on the A1 near Fenwick shortly after 1pm on 10 August. A clinician spoke with two patients and were advised they did not require an ambulance, but should make their own way to an urgent treatment centre to be checked over."
Campaign for dualling the A1

The mix of single and double-carriageway stretches is a major contributory factor to the high level of accidents. That has a terrible human toll and is also holding back the area's economy as Northumberland looks to grow its tourism, renewable energy and digital sectors. We appeal to the Government to urgently re-examine the case for dualling the A1 in Northumberland. This has been a long-standing issue, but recent tragedies have made it more urgent than ever. Please sign this petition to urge the Government to take action and make this critical change a reality."
