The Met Office has revealed that 11 UK areas will escape the heatwave expected this week, with some regions seeing temperatures as low as 10C, while much of the country bakes in scorching conditions.
Forecasters predict a blistering 36C could be reached in parts of East Anglia and south-east England on Thursday, August 13, with 28-33C hitting much of England and Wales throughout the week. However, several areas will mercifully avoid the hot and humid weather.
Cooler Spots Across the UK
Glasgow will see just 18C and rain on Sunday, with overnight lows dropping to 11C. When East Anglia suffers 36C peaks, Glasgow will only reach 22C. Edinburgh will see temperatures drop to 11C overnight on Sunday, rising to 26C on Wednesday, then falling to 23C on Thursday and 21C on Friday.
Londonderry (Derry) will drop as low as 10C on Sunday, with peaks of 17C, and only 21C on Thursday. Belfast will hit 25C on Wednesday, dropping to 23C on Thursday and 20C on Friday.
Cooler English Areas
In England, Whitby in North Yorkshire will remain relatively cool, with overnight temperatures dropping to 12C on Sunday and a high of just 26C on Thursday. Neighbouring Scarborough will see very similar conditions.
Other areas staying cooler include Aberdeen (22C on Thursday), Dumfries (20C), Stranraer (19C), Dundee (21C), and Wick (18C).
Heatwave Peak
Deputy Chief Forecaster Mike Silverstone said: "Temperatures will climb through the weekend and, more significantly, through much of next week. After a brief dip on Monday, high pressure will move across the UK before settling to the east, allowing a southerly flow to develop."
"A fairly widespread heatwave is likely across large parts of England and Wales, with hot conditions developing in places. The heat is expected to peak for much of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland on Wednesday, with up to 34°C possible in parts of central and southern England and southeast Wales. East Anglia and south-east England, however, could see temperatures even higher on Thursday."
"Humidity levels are also expected to increase through the week, which may make conditions feel more uncomfortable, particularly overnight."
