Yorkshire has been named the UK's best road trip destination, according to a new study by LKQ Euro Car Parts. The ranking comes as it's predicted that almost half (49%) of Brits are opting for a staycation or UK road trip in 2026.
Top Ranking Factors
The study ranked locations on a variety of factors, from traffic hotspots, EV charging access, petrol station availability and motorway services, to identify the most practical and accessible road trips for motorists. Yorkshire takes the number one spot with an overall score of 85.7, boasting 85 petrol stations and 720 electric vehicle charging points, with a traffic score of 52.2.
Covering destinations including York, Harrogate, Skipton and Whitby, the route provides motorists with excellent access to services while showcasing some of England's most picturesque countryside. A recommended stop is Malham Cove, a dramatic curved limestone cliff with a unique limestone pavement that was featured in the Harry Potter films. It's an excellent choice for walkers, photographers and families looking to experience one of Yorkshire's most impressive natural landmarks.
Cotswolds in Second
Yorkshire taking the top spot is good news for Jeremy Clarkson and his neighbours as the Cotswolds was pushed to second place. The region has 74 petrol stations and 620 EV charging points, with a traffic score of 53.3, and an overall score of 71.8. Stretching across Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Worcestershire, the region combines rolling countryside and historic villages. Visitors should consider a stop at Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.
Atlantic Highway Third
Coming in third place is the Atlantic Highway, with an overall score of 69. Running through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, it offers one of the UK's most scenic coastal drives. Less traffic, good fuel and charging coverage make it a practical choice for motorists looking to explore the South West. A highlight along the route is Newquay, one of the UK's best-known seaside destinations, famous for its sandy beaches and surfing culture.
Also included on LKQ Euro Car Parts' list are the Peak District and the Lake District. The Peak District stretches from Manchester and Sheffield, with destinations like Chatsworth and Mam Tor. In the Lake District are 16 glacial lakes and connections to William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
