York Christmas Market confirms 2026 return dates

York Christmas Market, a popular festive event about an hour's train ride from Newcastle, has confirmed its return for 2026. The market will run from November 12 to December 21, with alpine chalets lining Parliament Street and St Sampson's Square, showcasing local crafts, artisan products, unique gifts and seasonal treats.

A trip back in time

One Trip Advisor review of last year's event gave it 5/5, declaring York to be 'by far the best in the UK.' Another visitor, also awarding 5 stars, described it as a 'step back in time,' adding: 'It was like Charles Dickens days. York is the perfect place for a Xmas market.'

Some visitors did complain that it felt 'a bit too busy' last year, urging people to go early and visit midweek rather than at weekends to avoid congestion.

Newcastle's own market

Newcastle Christmas Market is also set to return in November, following its success last year. The event continues to grow, with this year's Christmas Village in Old Eldon Square featuring a larger big wheel, the return of the Moosenwirt Alpine bar, dining igloos at Monument, and numerous stalls.

A full list of traders for York Christmas Market is due to be announced soon. Like Newcastle's, the emphasis at York is on largely local businesses.
