As the UK braces for another heatwave with temperatures potentially reaching 30C, Brits can locate their nearest outdoor pool or lido using our interactive map. Despite the current damp and gloomy weather, the Met Office forecasts a return to summer by the end of this week, with parts of the country expected to be hotter than Ibiza on Father's Day.
Outdoor Swimming Venues Across the UK
Our map, based on data from swimming enthusiasts at allthelidos.co.uk, features a wide array of venues offering lane swimming and family-friendly splash areas. Before visiting, check the official website for opening hours, as some pools may have reduced schedules until July and August.
Notable Lidos
- Sea Lanes, Brighton: Opened in 2023, this outdoor pool offers views of the shingle beaches and includes a wellness hub and food outlets.
- Strand Lido, Gillingham, Kent: Known for its Mediterranean-style white color scheme and waterslides, it provides a holiday-like experience.
- Jubilee Pool, Penzance, Cornwall: The UK's largest seawater pool, featuring an Art Deco design and a Geothermal Pool that reaches 28-30C.
- Gourock Outdoor Pool, Inverclyde: Scotland's oldest outdoor heated pool, featured on Blur's 2023 album cover. Heated water from the Firth of Clyde maintains around 29C.
Revived Lidos
Many lidos have been restored through council investments. Hilsea Lido near Portsmouth reopened after a £7.75 million renovation, adding a sauna, changing rooms, an ice cream parlour, and a food van. Its operator described it as a "holiday at home" for the local community.
