British holidaymakers heading to Turkey must ensure their passport has an expiry date at least 150 days after the date they arrive, along with at least one blank page. Failure to meet these requirements can result in being denied entry.
Passport and entry requirements
For those who live in Turkey, the passport must be valid for six months from the date of arrival. If entering at a land border, travellers should make sure officials stamp and date the passport at the border crossing.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advises checking with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet the requirements, and renewing your passport if necessary. You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.
Visa rules and insurance
British citizens can visit Turkey without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, for business or tourism. When returning to the UK, British citizens must carry a valid British passport or a certificate of entitlement.
Travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign Office. The Foreign Office suggests researching your destination and getting appropriate travel insurance that covers your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency.
Regional travel warnings
British nationals currently in the Middle East should be prepared for possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions. In a recent update, the Foreign Office noted that the US and Iran announced a memorandum of understanding on June 17 in relation to the conflict in the Middle East, but the situation remains unpredictable.
Since July 8 there have been strikes and retaliatory attacks by Iran in a number of locations across the region against US military and civilian infrastructure, with a risk of more attacks and unforeseen escalation. Before the ceasefire, the Iranian regime had stated its intention to target locations associated with the US and Israel, including organisations, businesses, facilities, and institutions.
