A couple travelling from Faro, Portugal, to Manchester have vowed to never fly with Ryanair again after what they described as a 'nightmare' experience. The pair were due to depart at 10pm on Tuesday, September 16, but were left waiting on the tarmac for nearly an hour with no information before the flight was cancelled just after midnight due to a fault.
Passengers were directed back to the terminal, where they were met by three airport staff and told no accommodation was available. The couple claimed that with the airport closed and no cafes or shops open, around 200 passengers—including elderly and disabled people and pregnant women—were left to sleep on the terminal floor in the dark, with the lights turned off.
The couple said they received a text at about 1am informing them of a replacement flight at 6.05am. They boarded at around 6am but faced chaos as there was no seating manifest and staff told passengers to sit anywhere. They also complained that full price was charged for teas and coffees despite the ordeal.
The aircraft eventually departed at approximately 6.30am and landed in Manchester after 9.30am. The couple said they were 'treated like cattle' and received no apology, adding: 'It was an absolute nightmare and we will never fly with Ryanair again.' Ryanair did not respond to requests for comment.
