A driver has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a British teenager in a car crash in north London, just months after the victim was freed from a Dubai prison. Marwaan Mohamed Huseen, 20, admitted causing the death of 19-year-old Marcus Fakana by dangerous driving at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday.
The crash occurred in the early hours of 3 October 2024 in Tottenham. Huseen was attempting to flee from pursuing Metropolitan Police officers when he crashed a BMW into a lorry. Fakana, a passenger in the vehicle, died at the scene, while another passenger suffered serious injuries.
Fakana had been released from a Dubai prison three months earlier after serving about a year for having sex with a 17-year-old girl. He was freed following a royal pardon from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. The teenager, from Tottenham, had been on holiday with his parents in the UAE in summer 2024 when he began a romance with the girl.
Huseen, also from Tottenham, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving to the other passenger. He admitted being uninsured and unlicensed at the time of the crash. He has been in custody since his arrest at the scene.
Judge Emma Deacon KC remanded Huseen into custody. He is due to submit a basis for his pleas, with a sentencing date to be set on 27 February. A charge of driving without insurance and a licence was not formally entered, but the court was told he admitted to lacking both.
