Andreas Skov Olsen has said his loan spell at Rangers did not work out because Scottish football was not the right "match" for him. The Denmark international, who joined Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir on loan this summer, said he has now found a style of play he has been "longing for".
Failed Ibrox loan
Rangers signed the winger on loan from Wolfsburg in January with an option to buy for around £9 million. Skov Olsen consulted former Ibrox hero and compatriot Brian Laudrup before making the move.
He managed just one goal and three assists in 11 appearances in all competitions, with only two of those appearances coming in the final two months of the season. Wolfsburg, who were relegated from the Bundesliga, deemed him surplus to requirements.
Style of play comments
Ahead of Denmark's Nations League clash with Portugal on Thursday, the 26-year-old was asked about his time at Ibrox. He said: "It was perhaps not the right football for me, and personally I didn't get the best out of it as I had hoped. It just wasn't the right match football-wise."
He also explained his exit from Wolfsburg: "Wolfsburg switched to not playing with wings, so I ended up playing very far back, even though I'm not a right-back. That's how it goes in football, depending on which coach comes in. You never know, but in my case it might not have been the most optimal."
Fresh start in Turkey
Skov Olsen said he is happy with his new club: "Now I'm happy to have come to a place where I play on a team that wants to play football that suits me, and with a coach who believes in me. I've been longing for that, so it's great. We have a really good team with a great coach who wants to play good, offensive football."
Reflecting on his career, he added: "It has been a special journey where I tried to find my way without completely succeeding in getting the results I hoped for."
