Consumer experts at Which? have shared a simple hack for securing extra legroom on flights with major airlines including Ryanair and easyJet. In a recent Instagram post, they advised flyers to sit on the right-hand side of the plane.
Which seats to choose
For Ryanair, Which? noted that almost all of their planes are Boeing 737s, so choosing seats D, E and F in rows 3-15 will give the most legroom. For easyJet, they recommended seats D, E or F in rows 3-13 when flying on their Airbus A321neo, which offers an extra inch of legroom compared to rows 6-17 on the left-hand side.
While the hack won't turn economy into business-class, every centimetre counts, especially for taller passengers or those on long-haul flights. The experts added: "All planes are different, so it's always worth checking before you book."
How to check your plane before a flight
To find the best seat for legroom, flyers can use Google Flights to see the aircraft model for their destination and dates, then use the website AeroLopa to view a map of the plane with all its dimensions.
Other comfort tips from frequent flyers
Frequent flyers on Reddit's Travel page have shared additional advice. One recommended taking the window seat for sleeping, the aisle seat for stretching, and avoiding alcohol while staying hydrated. Another suggested getting up to walk or stand, and using noise-cancelling headphones, a hoodie, neck hollow or foot rest. A third advised compression socks and an aisle seat, staying hydrated, and taking walks without disturbing other passengers.
