A stunning beach in Scotland with 'sand in its purest form and water as blue as can be' has been named the best in Europe. Luskentyre Beach on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides topped a list compiled by travel company Iglu Cruise, which analysed TripAdvisor data to rank the most popular beaches across 10 European countries. The beach earned an impressive 93.8% of five-star reviews from visitors, outshining destinations in Italy, Spain, and elsewhere.
White Sands and Turquoise Waters
Luskentyre is known for its expanses of sugar-white sand and crystal-clear waters, framed by rolling dunes and the Hebridean mountains. Its beauty has been likened to the pristine shores of the Caribbean. The beach remains uncrowded, offering a peaceful retreat.
One TripAdvisor reviewer described it as 'the most stunning beach I have ever visited' and said, 'When I first saw it, my breath was literally taken away. It has beautiful sand and is never crowded. The sea is crystal clear, and there are views across to Taransay.' Another visitor wrote: 'This beach is Outstanding!!! I've never seen anything quite like it before. The views on the drive up to the car park are otherworldly.'
Top Ranking and Visitor Praise
The study found that UK searches for 'undiscovered destinations' rose by 5,000% in July, indicating growing interest in secluded getaways. Iglu Cruise highlighted that Luskentyre has also been recognised by TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards and frequently named the best beach in the UK.
A delighted holidaymaker remarked: 'Am I in the Caribbean? Words do not do this beach justice,' praising the 'amazingly gorgeous beach' with 'sand in its purest form and the water as blue as can be'. Another mentioned a public toilet at the car park and spotting two Highland cows 'sitting on the bluff overlooking the beach, chewing their cud'.

Travel experts at Iglu Cruise noted: 'Beyond the shore, visitors can hike the rugged trails of the North Harris hills or explore local weaver studios to discover handcrafted Harris Tweed.'
