Countdown star Rachel Riley has revealed a maths-based packing hack that allows holidaymakers to create over 700 unique outfits from just three tops and three bottoms. The trick, shared in collaboration with Philips, aims to help families pack smarter and reduce the amount of unused clothing typically taken on trips.
Riley explains that three tops and three bottoms produce nine distinct looks. Adding three pairs of shoes brings the total to 27 outfits. By including two additional accessories—such as headwear, statement necklaces, or sunglasses—the number of combinations skyrockets to over 700. The hack comes after research found that the average two-child family packs 48 outfits for a seven-day holiday, yet 42% of people wear only half of what they bring.
Other travel hacks gaining popularity include former flight attendant Beth Windsor's tip to bring hotel slippers on board. She recommends changing into them after take-off for comfort and hygiene, especially when visiting the restroom. Meanwhile, a TikTok video by @joanna.pirog demonstrates the clothes-rolling technique, which she claims allows three months' worth of clothing to fit into a small suitcase.
