Pembrokeshire Castle Launches Seasonal Dining Experience

Roch Castle in Pembrokeshire will host a special two-night seasonal dining event next month. The event, on Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, takes place in the historic 12th-century castle and features a curated menu from top chefs.

Overnight Stay and Tasting Menu

Guests will enjoy an overnight stay, a multi-course tasting menu from chefs at the award-winning Blas restaurant, and a filling Welsh breakfast the next morning.

Blas, meaning 'taste' in Welsh, began as a working windmill in 1806. Today it is a highly-praised restaurant with three AA Rosettes, featured in the Michelin Guide, and known for refined contemporary Welsh dishes made with wild-foraged ingredients.

The Michelin Guide says it "offers appealing menus which showcase seasonal Pembrokeshire produce from John Dory to lamb in pared-back, modern dishes".

Seasonal Menu and Castle History

The seasonal menu at the November dining event features carefully chosen meat and fish dishes that highlight Pembrokeshire and Welsh ingredients and flavours.

After dinner guests can relax in Roch Castle’s uniquely-decorated rooms and wake up to beautiful ocean views. Roch Castle sits high above the landscape on a volcanic, rocky outcrop, offering epic 360-degree views of the coastline.

The castle was built in the 12th century by Norman knight Adam de Rupe. In the 17th century the Walter family took ownership. Their daughter later had a son with Charles II, who was King of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1660 until his death in 1685.

Restoration and Modern Luxury

The castle fell into ruin until Sir John Wynford Philipps led restoration in the late 1890s and early 1900s.

The Griffiths Roch Foundation later acquired the property and arranged a full restoration by architects Acanthus Holden and Welsh Heritage Construction. The castle reopened in 2013 as a luxury boutique accommodation managed by the Retreats Group.

This historic property has been beautifully restored, transforming it from a medieval fortress into a luxury boutique bed and breakfast. The castle now offers six luxurious en suite bedrooms, a comfortable lounge, a glass-walled sunroom, and an outdoor viewing platform with sweeping views over St Brides Bay.

It was named Historic Eco Hotel of the Year and received the Silver Award for Historic Castle Hotel of the Year at a 2024 ceremony in Prague.

The castle currently holds a 9.5 ‘exceptional’ rating on Booking.com from 227 reviews. One guest wrote: “A very special, exceptional, and exclusive property. Highest quality with lots of art. Lovely staff and a delicious breakfast.”
