A traveller has shared a cringe-worthy tale of a stranger brazenly helping himself to her chips during a flight, leaving her utterly mortified. Adelle Petropoulos was flying from Melbourne to Sydney for a work trip on Sunday afternoon when the bizarre encounter unfolded.
An Unwanted Conversation
Adelle found herself seated next to a man who immediately struck up a conversation. "I was sitting on the flight and there's a guy next to me trying to hit on me... Typical Aussie bloke," she recalled in a now-viral TikTok video. When he asked for her name, she gave a false one, saying "My name's Mary." She explained, "You've gotta lie through your f***ing teeth at this point."
The man then inquired where 'Mary' came from, to which Adelle fabricated a story about being named after her grandmother. Trying to remain polite, she engaged briefly in small talk but soon put her earphones in, a move she described as a "clear sign" she wasn't interested. "I'm putting my earphones in... That's a clear sign of, 'Shut the f*** up'," she said.
The Chip Incident
Feeling hungry, Adelle opened her lunch—a packet of Smith's salt and vinegar crisps. "My lunch is appalling... It's my weak spot, I had a moment. Don't judge me," she admitted. With her earphones in, she couldn't hear the man continuing to talk. "I can't hear s***. He's yapping away. He hasn't worked out that I'm not responding," she explained.
Then, the unthinkable happened. "Suddenly, I see this man's hand in my f***ing chip packet. He pulls out a bunch and goes, 'Thanks love' and he starts eating them," Adelle recounted in disbelief. "I'm sorry, since when did I offer you my chips?"
Apparently, the stranger assumed she had offered them, despite her lack of response. "Apparently I f***ing did (offer)," she said. "Apparently, your dirty grubby hands can go in there, pick up my chips and eat them." As her eyes teared up, she ended the video with a simple, devastated statement: "He ate my chips."
