It is that time of year when reaching for a floral dress seems almost automatic, especially during this heatwave. However, women of a certain age should pause and rejoice because the Pretty Woman dress is making a triumphant return.

Frustratingly for some, it has repeatedly sold out. Customers report ordering online only to receive an email days later informing them that due to 'quality control' issues – meaning none left – the order was cancelled. One woman who managed to track down the dress in a top London store said: 'I was told it was the last one left in London. It was a size too big but I grabbed it. The sales guy told me, "It's the dress of the season, we haven't been able to get enough".'

Roberts as Vivian wore her dress with gloves, white kitten heels, and a straw sunhat trimmed with a matching band. For a 21st-century update, I would suggest simple ballet pumps or an elegant slingback if you want a slight heel. No trainers of any kind are allowed!
