A new independent café and 'sober bar' is set to open in a historic location in Edinburgh's West End. Named Brioche, the venue will be situated at 10B Queensferry Street, joining a host of fellow artisanal spots in the vicinity.
French-Japanese fusion and sister company
Hailed as a French x Japanese fusion, the diner will serve everything from afternoon tea and cakes to loose-leaf tea and independent coffee. It will be the sister company to the popular Macho Sando café on Bruntsfield Place, with the same team set to run Brioche.
Alongside acting as a traditional brunch spot, it has also been described as a 'sober bar'. Information on the Brioche Instagram page confirms that it will serve alcohol-free options, including non-alcoholic sparkling chardonnay that can be included with its afternoon tea menu, which will cost £52 per person.
Menu highlights and scenic backdrop
Also on the menu is a 'surf and turf' savoury canapé selection that includes smoked salmon blinis and cream cheese and prawn on spinach bread. Vegetarian options include polenta with courgette and goats cheese and almonds on a pistachio choux pastry.
Loose-leaf tea will include breakfast, decaf, apple and cinnamon, peppermint, chai and Islay whisky. There will also be sweet treat options, such as plain traditional scones with strawberry preserve and doughnut bon bons.
The Queensferry Street location will also provide those visiting the new fusion eatery with a scenic backdrop. From its cobbled streets to offering views of the iconic Edinburgh Castle in the background, it's one worthy of any Instagram shot.
Opening date and local excitement
As of writing, no official opening date for the Brioche café has yet been confirmed, although the latest Instagram story suggests it will be in October. The team behind the new diner have also been sharing a 'behind the scenes' preview on the official social media channels over the past week.
Alongside sharing a peek at the afternoon tea menu, videos have shown new signage and artwork being installed. In one post, the business wrote: "When the cups fill up, we're open."
The new eatery is also hiring for both full-time and part-time baristas. There will also be other roles available, although these will be dependent on both age and experience.
News of the upcoming new opening has already gone down well with Edinburgh locals, with many flocking to the comments section to share their excitement to try out a new interesting spot for food and drink. One curious shopper wrote: "Sounds very interesting. Excited to see more x." A similar comment from another shopper echoed: "This sounds very interesting! I look forward to it." Someone else keen to visit once it opens wrote: "Sounds fab!!"
