Celtic are reportedly set to miss out on Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis after crashing out of the Champions League. The Glasgow giants have been keen on the Lithuania international this summer, and after the £22million departure of Arne Engels for West Ham, the Hoops are also in the market for a midfielder.
Italian outlet Sportal now claim a move for Gineitis is "unlikely to materialise" after the Glasgow giants crashed out of Europe's elite competition. Boss Martin O'Neill conceded after defeat to LASK on Tuesday that there was uncertainty over the club's business following the collapse in Austria, conceding some players would have joined the club just for a crack at the Champions League.
Gineitis and Sigur deals in doubt
It is claimed that the "changed situation" makes it increasingly likely that Danny Rohl's RB Salzburg will win the signing race, with Torino demanding a €10million (£9million) payday to sell the 22-year-old talent.
Celtic have been long-term admirers of Hajduk Split star Niko Sigur, but a move has been put in major jeopardy with Genk reportedly leading the race for a deal. Toulouse, Coventry and the Scottish champions have been named as interested parties, with Hajduk demanding a £3.4million payday for the versatile midfielder.
Hatate future uncertain
But Croatian outlet Index report that the Belgian side have met the club's asking price, and Hajduk will evaluate the bid following their Conference League second leg clash with Raków Częstochowa on Thursday. It is noted that the Canadian international is "expected" to move before the end of the window.
In terms of outgoings, Reo Hatate faces an uncertain future. The 28-year-old's appearance off the bench in Linz was only his second cameo so far this season. Former Aberdeen executive Keith Wyness reckons that Celtic may have to drop their asking price to offload the Japan cap before the end of the window.
He told the Inside Track podcast: "I think they've [Celtic] been looking around about £12m. So I think you have to drop to something like £8m if you're going to try and sell him. From what I'm hearing, there's a lack of interest. I think they'll try their best to try and get something done this week. It seems he wants to wait for a certain quality of club to come."
"They need to get rid now because every week that you're spending wages on a point of principle, you're burning cash. If the right club comes in, there could even be injuries this weekend that could dictate an offer for him. So they'll be looking for that sort of situation. It's a fluid situation, but Celtic haven't got the best of options right now."
