Manchester Airport flights back to normal after security breach

Flight schedules at Manchester Airport have returned to normal after operations were disrupted overnight following a security breach. Seven flights were diverted and at least 17 were held in the skies over Manchester Airport after a man got onto the airfield.

Incident details

Police were called to the airport just after 11.20pm last night (Friday, August 21) after the man 'encroached' onto the airfield. A spokesperson for Manchester Airport said the incident lasted for around 15 minutes, before he was taken to hospital from the scene. The Manchester Evening News understands the incident was mental health-related.
