The ballot results for the 2027 London Marathon are being released on Thursday, with over 1.3 million hopefuls from the UK and around the world finding out if they have secured a place in the historic two-day event.
Last month, organisers announced that the 2027 edition will be a double marathon, taking place over the weekend of April 24 and 25. This expansion allows 100,000 people to participate, smashing the previous record of 59,830 who took part in 2026.
Ballot Process and Notification
Everyone who entered the 2027 ballot was automatically included in a random draw for both days. Results are being sent by email to all applicants throughout Thursday. Applicants have been told to contact London Marathon Events if they have not received their result by 9am on Friday.
CEO Statement on Historic Event
Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, said: “The 2027 Double TCS London Marathon will be a weekend of celebration like no other in history. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 100,000 people to take part across the two days, with 45,000 taking part on Saturday and 55,000 on Sunday.”
He added: “We know there’s a record number of people eagerly awaiting today’s results. For those who are successful, their exciting journey to the 2027 Double TCS London Marathon begins now. For those who didn't get a place in the ballot, you can still be part of the TCS London Marathon by applying for one of the charity places – which, for 2027 only, includes the chance to run on the Saturday.”
Impact and Next Steps
The 2027 event marks a significant expansion for the London Marathon, offering unprecedented participation opportunities. Successful applicants will begin their training journey, while unsuccessful entrants can still secure a place through charity applications.
