Passengers flying from Liverpool John Lennon Airport can now leave liquids and large electrical items in their hand luggage during security screening, following a social media announcement by the airport.
What the new rules mean
Liquids in containers of 100ml or less are permitted to remain in hand luggage without needing a clear plastic bag. Exceptions are made for medication with a prescription label and baby food. For medication and baby food over 100ml, these must be removed from hand luggage prior to x-ray screening.
The airport posted on Facebook earlier this week: "Good news! Liquids and large electrical items can stay in your hand luggage. Please also ensure liquids are in containers of 100ml or less."
Definition and restrictions
The term "liquids" includes gels, aerosols, pastes, canned goods in sauces, perfume, makeup, e-cigarette cartridges and lighters. Essential medicines may be permitted in larger quantities above the 100ml limit but will be subject to authentication. All medicines should carry the prescription label clearly showing the passenger's name.
Each airline has its own policy regarding the size and number of hand luggage items. However, restricted items are enforced by airports, directed by UK Department for Transport regulations.
Security timing and advice
Security screening at Liverpool John Lennon Airport typically takes between 15 and 20 minutes, though it can be longer during busy periods. The airport recommends passengers arrive two to three hours before departure.
New routes announced
The airport has recently announced new flight routes. From October 26, Ryanair will operate flights between Liverpool and Gdansk on the Baltic coast, twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. In June, easyJet announced flights to Budapest, Hungary, starting November 19, also twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays. This is the fourth new route announced in two months.
