Kirstie Allsopp has issued an update after she was airlifted to hospital with an injured leg during a holiday in Devon. The 55-year-old presenter, known for hosting Location, Location, Location on Channel 4, slipped on a muddy patch on a steep path while walking back from a beach with her family following her birthday celebrations.
Birthday celebration ends in hospital dash
Allsopp explained on Instagram that she had been to a picnic on the beach at Welcombe Mouth as part of a family tradition when she slipped. She said it took "a whole host of people to get me to hospital", adding: "After a little wait while poor Oscar [her son] ran as fast as he could to get help, and the RNLI Bude Lifeboat paramedics and Cornwall Air Ambulance tracked me down."
She underwent an operation on her leg, saying: "It'll be a boot and crutches for a while, but I feel very, very lucky that it was possible to reach me and get me to hospital so quickly, and I have a job that I can do on crutches." Three weeks after the incident, she offered an update, saying: "Things are improving slowly but surely."
Family and homes
Allsopp is the eldest child of Charles Allsopp, 6th Baron Hindlip, a former chairman of the auction house Christie's. She is also the cousin of designer and businesswoman Cath Kidston. In a 2010 interview with The Guardian, she admitted she attended 10 schools during her education, saying: "I went to 10 schools because I was just so happy at home and, consequently, not happy at any school. My parents' domestic life seemed really lovely; it was all I wanted."
She set up her own home search company, Kirmir, in 1996. Her husband is property developer Ben Andersen, and the couple married after 21 years together at Grosvenor Chapel in January 2025. They have two sons together, and Allsopp is also stepmother to Andersen's two sons from a previous relationship.
Two homes in London and Devon
The family has two homes, one in Notting Hill, London, and a home they restored themselves called Meadowgate, in Welcombe in rural Devon. Allsopp told West London Living: "Between Devon and Notting Hill. Because basically, I think they're the nicest places to live."
In 2008, she bought and restored Meadowgate, which had been empty for almost 40 years. The star documented the restoration as part of her TV series, Kirstie's Homemade Home. The house is now available for the public to rent and it has three double bedrooms, a twin room and an additional twin bunk room, as well as a sixth bedroom separate from the main house.
Allsopp explained how her family uses the Devon home on X, clarifying: "Meadowgate is our family holiday home, we go there for holidays & rent it out to other families." Location, Location, Location returns today on Channel 4 at 8pm.
