Porto Timoni beach on the Greek island of Corfu, with its twin turquoise bays, has been highlighted as a European alternative to Bali's famous Nusa Penida beach. The beach is located on the northwest coast of the island, near the village of Afionas, and is a much shorter flight from Liverpool than a trip to Southeast Asia.
A quieter alternative to Corfu's hotspots
The beach tends to be quieter than some of Corfu's tourist hotspots, as it is only accessible via a scenic hike or a boat. Visitors enjoy secluded coves with crystal clear waters and panoramic views. Its twin bays are separated by a narrow strip of land, offering two beaches in one location.
From Afionas, it is a 20 to 30 minute walk down to the beach, with stunning views along the way. There are no facilities on the beach, so visitors need to bring all food and drink with them.
Boat excursions and nearby attractions
For those who prefer not to hike, TUI Musement offers a Sea Safari with Rib Boat excursion, which includes a visit to Porto Timoni as well as Diaplo and Mathraki, tiny islands with sandy shores and hardly any visitors. The excursion costs from £75 per adult for a full-day tour.
The village of Afionas is also worth visiting, with its cobblestone streets and colourful houses. An hour away is Corfu Town, known for its Venetian-British architecture and lively atmosphere.

Current TUI deals to Corfu include seven nights at the Atlantica Grand Mediterraneo Resort, a 5T resort, on a half board basis. Flying from Liverpool on September 9, this costs £1,184 per person for two sharing. Alternatively, a stay at Theodosia Studios & Apartments with a 3T rating costs £497 per person, self catering.
Seasonal flights to Corfu from Liverpool John Lennon Airport are operated by Jet2, easyJet, and Ryanair, typically running from late-March until mid-October. Saskia Huck, team manager for TUI who has lived in Corfu for 21 years, said: "I first visited Corfu in 1997 and completely fell in love with the island. More than two decades later, I still feel the same way."
