Pontypridd offers a free swim for kids at its historic lido, set within the lush surroundings of Ynysangharad War Memorial Park. The park also features a large play area, plenty of green space, and a town centre with cafes, restaurants, a museum, and arts venues.
Lido and Park Details
The lido, located in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, is open for full-day sessions from June 1 during term time and school holidays. Early morning swims are available on weekdays and weekends from 6.30am to 8.45am. Children under 16 swim free, while adults pay £4 per session. Non-swimmers accompanying children pay £3.50.
The Grade II listed venue has been restored with original features like 1920s turnstiles and wooden cubicles. It includes three heated pools, loungers, and bookable activities. Water pedalos, inflatable zorbs, and a Welsh dragon inflatable assault course are among the attractions.
Originally built in 1927, the lido fell into disrepair but reopened in 2015 after a restoration funded by £3m from the European Regional Development Fund, £2.3m from the Heritage Lottery Fund, £900,000 from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, and £100,000 from Cadw.
The park itself is a highlight, with Lido Play playground and ample space for picnics. It has held a Green Flag Award for 13 consecutive years.

Gatto Lounge offers a Little Loungers Breakfast Club with free Kellogg's cereals for kids during school holidays. Prince's on Taff Street serves sandwiches, pasties, and pies made on site. Getting There
Transport for Wales offers a family train ticket allowing two children under 16 to travel free with a fare-paying adult. For drivers, Gas Road car park near the park costs up to 80p per hour (max four hours). Long-stay car parks at Millfield, Goods Yard, Sardis Road, and Catherine Street cost £1.90 for up to four hours.
