Among the destinations flagged are Turkey, Mexico, and Thailand, though specific areas within these countries may be affected.
The FCDO cautions that ignoring travel advice could leave travellers uninsured and in potential danger. The warnings are based on security concerns, health hazards, and legal discrepancies with UK law. Out of 226 countries or territories listed on the FCDO's advice pages, 68 currently have areas considered too dangerous.
Recent updates to travel guidance for Middle Eastern nations have been made in light of escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon. The FCDO warns: 'On 1 October, Iran launched around 200 ballistic missiles at Israel. On 26 October, Israel carried out military action against Iran. Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast.'
Ukraine is also on the list due to the 'ongoing risk of harm to British nationals from Russian attacks.' The FCDO defines essential travel as a personal decision based on individual circumstances and risks, but stresses that non-essential travel should be avoided in high-risk areas.
