Family stranded in Greece after TUI flight cancelled

The Davies family, from North Wales, have been stuck in Greece for over a day after their flight home was cancelled. Craig and Becky Davies, along with their two children, were set to leave Preveza, located in north-west Greece, at 12:40pm on Wednesday (August 12).

However, they were soon informed that the TUI aircraft was grounded due to a missing essential service-kit component. The family is trying to get home to see a close relative who is receiving palliative care.

No TUI representative at airport

Speaking to Wales Online, Craig said: "Becky's dad is on palliative care and we don't know when we're going to get back. We've got two children with us and nobody from TUI has been there to tell us what's actually happening."

The family claimed that there was no TUI representative at the airport to provide assistance to the stranded passengers on what to do next. Additionally, the passengers claimed they were not provided clear guidance on when or how they’d return home.

Only €30 offered for food and drink

According to the family, the only message from TUI was that each passenger would be given €30 to cover food and drink expenses. The Davies family were still trying to work out how to get home over a day after they were originally set to fly to Manchester.

By Thursday evening (August 13), no confirmed plane, flight number, or departure time had been provided by TUI. The family said they were put on a five-hour coach journey to Athens.

Rescue flight yet to be confirmed

Told that they might board a rescue flight in the Greek capital, that had yet to be confirmed by Thursday. The situation has been especially tough for Becky, who wants to be reunited with her loved ones back home.

Craig said of the ordeal: "We're not asking for anything special. We just need to get home.

“We can accept that planes go wrong. What we can't accept is being left in the dark, having no TUI representative there and then being sent five hours across the country without knowing if there is even going to be a plane at the other end."

Wales Online confirmed that they have approached TUI for a comment.
