Expedia's latest Autumn Travel Outlook report has identified the cheapest dates to fly in autumn, as well as the quietest and the dates when flights can still be expensive, even though it's still off-peak.
Cheapest and Quietest Days to Fly
One of the cheapest days to fly is next month, September 18, but if that's too soon for you, then another inexpensive date is November 27, perfect for those who are looking for some winter sun or a pre-Christmas break. And if you're someone who hates the crowds at airports, then you might want to choose to fly on one of the quietest days to fly internationally, according to Expedia: November 18 and 24.
Most Expensive and Busiest Days
But not all autumn dates are cheap. November 11 and 18 are the most expensive dates to fly to a different country, despite being in the middle of the week and during a month that's not exactly peak tourist season. Late November can often be expensive if you're flying to the USA, as it's close to Thanksgiving, while early November price rises can sometimes be down to October half-term dates being later than usual. The busiest days to fly are September 4 and 11. On these days, which coincide with the end of the school holidays, you're most likely to find lines at the airport, possibly full of parents looking to jet off for some peace during the autumn term.
Fast-Growing Autumn Destinations
Expedia's report also examined some of the fast-growing destinations that have seen a surge in bookings by Brits. Luxembourg emerged as the fastest-growing autumn destination, an often-overlooked city with medieval castles and unique rocky cliffs that tower over its UNESCO-listed old town. Sarandë on the Albanian Riviera has also seen a surge in popularity in the autumn months, offering sunny, mild weather into October, Greek and Roman ruins, and nearby islands with white-sand beaches. Other destinations popular with Brits include Budva in Montenegro, which has a 2,500-year-old coastal old town, and Ljubljana in Slovenia, a pretty, leafy capital with a huge medieval castle at its heart.
