A dog owner and their pet were just minutes away from being cut off by a flooding tide at Blackpool beach and had to be rescued over the weekend.
Rescue on South Shore
At around 9.54am on Saturday (September 12) Blackpool RNLI volunteers were called out by HM Coastguard after reports that a person and their dog had become cut off at South Shore by the rising tide. Blackpool Council Beach Patrol was also tasked with responding to the incident at the same time, LancsLive reports.
Beach Patrol officers at the scene managed to carry out the rescue. RNLI volunteers were preparing their lifeboat at the time.
Safe Return
The person and their dog were brought safely to nearby steps, with the lifeboat crew then stood down after receiving confirmation they were both safe. Blackpool RNLI said the incident highlighted the teamwork between its volunteers, Blackpool Council Beach Patrol and Coastguard response teams.
In a post on Facebook, the RNLI said: "This clearly demonstrates the team work that goes into keeping Blackpool Safe, and the great resource that is the Council Beach Patrol, along with our Coastguard response teams. The collective objective of Saving Lives at Sea is something we are proud of,"
Safety Warning
As yesterday, when seconds count, if you see anything of concern on the beach or at sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Be aware of the tide and the fact that very quickly, the sea can cut off sandbanks from the shore.
The RNLI urged people visiting the coast to be aware of tide times and warned that sandbanks can quickly become cut off from the shore as the tide rises.
