The father of missing 14-year-old Jay Slater has made a desperate plea for information as the search for his daughter on the Greek island of Tenerife enters its most critical phase.
Warren Slater described the family's anguish as 'living in absolute hell' since the teenager vanished during what should have been a dream holiday. Jay was last seen on Monday morning in the popular tourist area of Los Cristianos.
Disappearance During Family Holiday
The nightmare began when Jay failed to return to the family's accommodation after going out with new friends she had met at the resort. Warren immediately reported his daughter missing to local authorities when she didn't respond to messages or calls.
'We're just living in hell, absolute hell,' the devastated father told reporters. 'She's only 14 and she's out there somewhere alone. We need to find her and bring her home safe.'
Massive Search Operation Underway
Spanish police have launched an extensive search operation involving:
- Multiple police units and specialist search teams
- Coastal patrol vessels scanning the shoreline
- Helicopters with thermal imaging technology
- Local volunteers coordinating with authorities
The search has focused on the rugged coastline and urban areas surrounding Los Cristianos, a region popular with British tourists but with challenging terrain.
Family's Desperate Appeal
Warren has travelled to Tenerife to join the search efforts and is working closely with both British consular officials and Spanish police. He described his daughter as 'a typical happy teenager' who was excited about her first major holiday abroad without parents.
'If anyone has seen her, if anyone knows anything, please, please come forward,' Warren pleaded. 'No piece of information is too small. We just want our girl back.'
The family has been in constant contact with the Foreign Office, which is providing support and liaising with Spanish authorities. A spokesperson confirmed they are 'supporting the family of a British national reported missing in Tenerife.'
Critical Time Window
Search and rescue experts emphasise that the first 72 hours following a disappearance are crucial. As the operation continues into its third day, concerns grow about Jay's welfare, particularly given the island's high temperatures and challenging landscape.
Local authorities have assured the family that every resource is being deployed in the search. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from hotels, restaurants, and public areas while conducting door-to-door inquiries in the vicinity where Jay was last seen.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Tenerife police or the British Embassy immediately.
