Creamfields Festival was hit by severe storms over the Bank Holiday weekend, forcing some acts to abandon their sets mid-performance. The dance festival, which kicked off on Friday, saw DJ Vikkstar, a member of YouTube collective The Sidemen, removed from the stage during his debut set.
DJ Vikkstar's set cut short
Vikkstar shared videos of the disruption on social media, telling fans: "POV: Your Creamfields Debut gets shut down because of a thunderstorm." In one clip, fans could be heard chanting "keep on playing" and booing as the music stopped.
He later posted: "Creamfields robbed of some generational drum and bass tonight… next time." The following morning, he appeared to take the situation in his stride, writing on X: "Creamfields set shut down… Maybe I shouldn’t have worn a lightning tee. Appreciate you all."
All other sets cancelled
It is understood that all other sets were cancelled across the festival last night due to the severe weather disruption. The inclement conditions have frustrated many fans, who took to social media to express their disappointment.
One person on X said: "Of course! Months of perfect sunshine… then the moment Creamfields opens, the heavens decide to open too! Classic UK weather betrayal!" Another commented: "Weather in England has been brilliant for months, Leeds and reading this weekend, leeds has issued a weather update of flash floods and thunderstorms and creamfields has this."
Met Office warning
Ahead of the festival, the Met Office had warned attendees to be prepared for wet weather. The announcement said: "Those attending Creamfields can expect an unsettled spell of weather throughout the festival. Current forecasts suggest heavy downpours and thunderstorms are a possibility as low pressure becomes established across the UK. Temperatures are expected to remain a little above average, with increasingly humid conditions developing as the festival progresses."
It added: "While there should be some drier and brighter periods between showers, festivalgoers should be prepared for wet weather at times and the possibility of sudden heavy rainfall."
