Calvin Ramsay has admitted he was keen to return to Scotland after leaving Liverpool on loan in a switch which effectively ends his Reds career. The 23-year-old has signed for St Mirren for the 2026/27 season, subject to international clearance.
However, with the Scotland international out of contract at Anfield next summer, he will depart on a free transfer with it already decided that he will not be offered a new contract by Liverpool.
Ramsay eager to rebuild career
With his long-term future uncertain as a result, Ramsay has admitted he wanted to return to familiar surroundings as he looks to kickstart his career away from Anfield.
"I feel really good, really excited," he told the club. "I've been in and trained and met all the boys, so yeah, I'm looking forward to it."
"I know the league and I wanted to come back up here and try and show what I can do and rebuild myself again. I feel like it's a good place to come. I want to try and perform, work as hard as I can and see where that takes me."

"It's a really tough place to come for opposition teams and I think the pitch is really good as well from when I played here. It's a good set up, it's a good club and I'm just excited to get going," he added.
"I spoke to the manager a couple of times before I came up and he got his plan across and what he wanted to do."
"It's probably a different St Mirren compared to the last few years. That'll suit me. I'm comfortable on the ball, I'm composed, I like to get on it and try and create things and make things happen."
Injury-hit Liverpool spell
Ramsay signed for Liverpool in an initial £4.2m move from Aberdeen in June 2022, but his Reds career was plagued by injuries and unsuccessful loan moves.
The full-back was limited to just four appearances during his four years at Liverpool, while he featured only a combined total of 26 times during temporary stints at Preston North End, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and Kilmarnock across the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.
He remained on Merseyside for the 2025/26 season, and was named in the matchday squad on 20 occasions under Arne Slot. However, he only featured twice with his inclusion predominantly a result of the Reds' defensive injury issues.
Ramsay will now be looking to reignite his career back north of the border, and will be free to talk to other clubs over his next move from January.
