The alert was issued on Saturday, and as of March 4, thousands remain stuck on their ships, which should have been continuing scheduled routes through the Middle East. The MSC Euribia, for instance, was meant to travel to Europe later this year, but its path is now blocked by the Strait of Hormuz—a critical passage that Iran has warned it will not allow ships to pass through during hostilities, even threatening to "burn every ship."

An anonymous passenger on the Euribia reported "constantly hearing explosions" from Dubai, while an Italian passenger noted that although the situation is calm, recommendations are to stay indoors. Cruise companies have stated they are monitoring the situation closely and keeping passengers aboard for safety, with limited evacuation options. For example, TUI Cruises arranged a special Emirates flight for 218 guests from Mein Schiff 4 to Munich, but many others remain stranded.
