Alex Polizzi: 'It astonishes me how deluded some people are'

TV presenter Alex Polizzi has shared her frustrations with small business owners, particularly those who fail to understand their own finances. Speaking about her experience on shows like The Fixer and The Hotel Inspector, Polizzi said: 'It astonishes me how deluded some people are. I know that most of us don’t like criticism, but deep down we know when we’re not doing the best job at something.'

Polizzi criticised hoteliers who ignore her advice on cleanliness, calling it 'the basic bare minimum that one can expect when staying at a hotel'. She also dismissed those who dismiss review sites, saying: 'You can’t put the genie back in the bottle. Review sites exist, people look at them, so make sure you address the issues that people bring up on them.'

The hotel expert admitted she was not ambitious enough to launch her own chain, despite being born into a famous hotelier family. 'I could have set up a chain. I think I probably wasn’t ambitious enough. I never wanted to go and raise funds; I never had a burning idea that I wanted to do myself,' she said.

Polizzi also discussed her recent work with military veterans, helping them find employment after leaving the armed forces. She acknowledged the challenges, saying: 'I was very naive and thought I’d be able to make an enormous difference. I haven’t been able to do that, but the guys I worked with are in a much better state.'
