Shocking CCTV footage captures the moment a six-year-old girl was swept out of a convenience store doorway while lying in her crib, as powerful winds from Typhoon Hóngxiá struck Shenzhen, China, on Saturday afternoon. The girl was playing inside the family-owned shop when a sudden gust blew the doors open, carrying her across the tarmac and onto a grassy verge.
No Injuries Reported
Two younger children were also inside the store at the time—one in a pushchair and the other playing on the floor. Only the eldest child was blown outside, and no injuries were reported. The force of the wind flipped her crib over, throwing her to the ground while the bed itself vanished from sight.
Father’s Reaction
The father later told local media that the gust struck without warning, leaving adults unable to reach the child before she was swept out. After sharing the CCTV footage online, he said: "We never expected it to attract so much attention."
Typhoon Hóngxiá’s Impact
Typhoon Hóngxiá made landfall near Pinghai Ancient City at about 3:50 a.m. on July 26, after its outer rainbands and powerful winds had already battered Shenzhen. The storm had maximum sustained winds near its centre of about 45 metres per second (101 mph), bringing dangerous conditions across the region.
Huge waves pounded the coastline, while torrential rain and violent gusts swept through streets, causing widespread damage. Trees were uprooted, advertising signs torn down or left tilted, streetlights snapped, basketball hoops blown over, and roads were littered with fallen branches and debris.
