GB News presenter Ben Leo has issued a worrying weather alert for England fans ahead of the World Cup clash with Mexico in Mexico City. Torrential rain, lightning, and thunderstorms have been battering the city just hours before the scheduled 1am BST kick-off, raising concerns of a potential match delay or suspension.
Lightning Strikes Could Trigger 30-Minute Delay
Broadcasting live from near the stadium, Leo appeared drenched as he apologized for the thunder disrupting the transmission. He explained that if lightning strikes occur within 8 miles of the stadium, an instant 30-minute delay is triggered. "Lightning is striking above us. You can hear the roll of the thunder as well," he said. "I think there will be lightning strikes at kickoff at 1am, so if anyone's waiting up for the game, bear in mind, if there's lightning strikes within 8 miles of the stadium, it's an instant 30 minute delay."
England Fans Brave the Storm
Leo spoke with passionate England supporters who had traveled to Mexico despite not having tickets. The fans expressed their determination to support the team despite the adverse weather conditions. Leo wrapped up the segment by betting that the game would be delayed due to lightning strikes, reiterating the 30-minute delay rule.
Back in the studio, presenter Alex responded: "Yeah, great stuff, Ben. Thanks for being there for us, mate. And stay safe."
