Thousands of fans heading to Bellahouston Park in Glasgow for Pitbull's Summer Sessions concert tonight (July 1) should prepare for wet and windy conditions, as the Met Office forecasts heavy rain and blustery winds across Scotland.
Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected
The Met Office warns that a large band of rain will cover Scotland from early afternoon, moving eastward and persisting through the night. Glasgow and surrounding areas are likely to see "heavy rain" during the evening, with some regions potentially experiencing thunder and lightning. Winds will be strong, making temperatures feel cooler than the predicted 17°C.
Pitbull fans sporting the iconic bald cap look may find their headgear tested by the downpour. The Met Office's forecast for Strathclyde states: "A cloudy, wet evening with occasionally heavy rain spreading eastwards. Turning drier through the rest of the night with some clearer spells developing. Blustery winds, strong at times. Minimum temperature 12 °C."
Rainfall Intensity and Regional Variations
Weather maps indicate that parts of the Central Belt and Dumfries and Galloway could receive up to 16mm of rain per hour. Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir explained: "Showers will develop through the morning and into the afternoon as the cloud thickens from the west. This will bring two things through the afternoon. So heavy scattered showers across more northern and eastern areas - we could see some thunder and lightning but this will be fairly sporadic."
She added: "Further west, more cloud and more persistent rain arriving. Through the evening that rain could intensify further. Temperatures towards the west only 17C, but we'll hang on to some warmth further east - 20C being the high for Aberdeenshire and down towards Borders."
Wider Weather Outlook
The rainy conditions are expected to persist over the next few days and into next week, with bands of rain sweeping across Scotland. However, temperatures are predicted to remain in the high teens to low twenties. By Monday, July 6, the Met Office forecasts highs of 22°C in Brechin, with Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Perth, and Dundee also reaching 20°C. Western areas like Mallaig, Fort William, and Oban will be cooler, around 16°C.
This wet spell follows last week's hottest day of the year in Scotland, when Threave in Dumfries and Galloway recorded 31.2°C, just shy of the June record of 32.2°C.
